Do you want to get ahead of your competitors with your GPS/Glonass device?

Traditional way of acquiring position of your device is by receiving satellite signal through so called ceramic patch antenna. It has a pin going through the ceramic body, coming out on the bottom side, which usually needs to be soldered to mother board by hand.

Traditional patch antenna has a pin which needs to be soldered manually. (Click on picture for better resolution.)

Would you like automated assembly of a whole PCB board?

With SMT type patch antenna it is now possible. Now you can add GPS/Glonass patch antenna on your device the same way as you add capacitors, inductors and other elements.

The difference between patch antenna and other passive components is that patch antenna needs to be tuned first on your prototype device. Unictron will gladly do the tuning in our laboratories. After that you will have a stable automated production.

SMD type patch antenna has no pin. Ready for automated assembly.

Performance of the patch antenna (whether it is traditional or SMD type) depends on the ground (PCB) you put it on. Therefore, if you have two devices with different dimensions, the same ceramic patch antenna probably will not work on the second device. Solution to this is very easy. Tune the antenna to get the central frequency where GPS/Glonass signal is.

Tuning is done by adjusting the impedance (PI matching circuit) and modifying the silver surface of the ceramic patch antenna. Impedance tuning is rather an easy procedure, while adjusting the silver surface needs some experience. Unictron as an antenna manufacturer can provide you the tuning results within few days after receiving your prototype device.

Unictron has been granted a US patent for SMD (Surface Mount Device) patch antenna. Therefore no need to look further, contact us today for assistance.
